Glenn Crytzer

AND HIS FAMOUS ORCHESTRA

- Swing Music: It hasn't been this good since 1945. -

Who We Are

The Glenn Crytzer Orchestra is a 17 piece big band that focuses on playing authentic Swing Era music for dancers.

Led by swing dancer and conservatory graduate Glenn Crytzer, the GCO is comprised of all-star players from NYC who rehearse and perform together regularly. Because of this, the quality of performance the GCO is able to present is far above that of the typical pick-up style band frequently showcased at swing dance events.

The GCO and Glenn's small groups have performed at Midsummer Night Swing, Lindy Focus, Bal Week, the Seattle Lindy Exchange and hundreds of other swing dances and events across the USA and Canada. They were the winners of the 2011 DCLX Battle of the Big Bands.

Swing, in the sense of “the swing era,” is elusive and difficult for modern bands to achieve. But Glenn Crytzer possesses the rare fanaticism required pull it off. He’s obsessed with sound and the refinement of sound.

Glenn and his musicians bring a high degree of professionalistm and polish, all while providing a great selection of traditional swing tunes from the golden big band era of the 1930s and 1940s (our favorite). They are also snappy dressers and look great on the bandstand, and that ain't hay!

I've worked with Glenn on several occasions as a swing dance organizer and promoter and have enjoyed the experience of working with Glenn and dancing to his music.  He was very organized, with clear communication about what the band would need and understanding the parameters and limitations of the venues.  His music is top-notch, with stellar musicians on his roster and great swing arrangements for his groups, both his originals and classic tunes.

The band was terrific!  They kept our dancers on the floor from their first note til the last.

The Savoy Seven

Glenn Crytzer's Savoy Seven is a 7 piece swing combo focused on the music of the 1930s and 1940s. Their repertoire includes the music of Benny Goodman, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sidney Bechet and many more.

The Glenn Crytzer Orchestra

The GCO is a 17 piece big band that plays the music of the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s including charts from Goodman, Webb, Basie, Miller, Shaw, Ellington, Mills Blue Rhythm Band, Redman, Henderson, The Casa Loma Orchestra, Goldkette, the Dorseys, and many more.  The band focuses on authentic performance practice; the sections are stacked with all-star, NYC vintage jazz specialists who perform together regularly and know the book, and band leader Glenn Crytzer overlooks no detail in meticulously preparing the charts and rehearsing the band. The result is swing music like it hasn't been heard since the 1940s.

The New Yorkers

Glenn Crytzer's New Yorkers are a 6 piece combo with a loose instrumentation that allows for a second guitar to be substituted for piano. The group mixes charts with head tunes and is ideal for smaller dances and events that are just starting out.
